maniple
Priest's arm band
A maniple is a subdivision of a Roman legion, typically containing 120 to 160 soldiers arranged in a tactical unit.
The term also refers to a liturgical vestment—a narrow strip of cloth worn over the left arm by Catholic priests during Mass, now largely obsolete since Vatican II reforms.
Both senses connect to the Latin word for handful.
