mamaw
Grandma, down South
Mamaw is an informal term for grandmother, used primarily in the American South and Appalachia.
The spelling varies—memaw, meemaw, mawmaw—but all represent the same affectionate address: Mamaw always made biscuits on Sunday mornings.
Like similar terms (nana, granny, grandma), it often distinguishes one grandmother from the other.
