mall culture
Retail social scene
Mall culture refers to the social patterns and consumer behaviors centered on shopping malls as gathering places.
Beyond retail, malls became spaces for teenagers to socialize, families to spend weekends, and communities to congregate—especially in American suburbs from the 1980s onward.
The term often carries nostalgia for an era before online shopping diminished the mall's role: Mall culture shaped a whole generation of kids who grew up hanging out at the food court.
