magic kingdom

Fantastical fictional land

Magic Kingdom is Walt Disney World's flagship theme park in Florida, opened in 1971 and built around Cinderella Castle.

The name has become shorthand for any Disney park or, more broadly, for fantastical escapism: After a week in the magic kingdom, reality felt harsh.

Used ironically, it can describe any insular, tightly controlled environment that projects artificial happiness.
