String tension adjuster
A machine head is a geared tuning mechanism on a stringed instrument, typically a guitar or bass.
The knobs along the headstock that you turn to tighten or loosen each string are machine heads: I need to replace a stripped machine head on my acoustic.
Also called tuning pegs or tuners.
