peace offerings
Gestures of atonement
Peace offerings are gifts or gestures meant to restore harmony after conflict or offense.
The term originates in ancient religious sacrifice—animals offered to God as thanksgiving or to seal a covenant.
Now it's usually secular and often slightly humorous: I brought donuts as a peace offering after missing the meeting.
The gesture acknowledges fault and seeks reconciliation.
