low pressure system
Stormy air mass
A low pressure system is a region of the atmosphere where air pressure is lower than in surrounding areas.
Air flows inward and rises, typically producing clouds, precipitation, and unsettled weather.
In the Northern Hemisphere, winds spiral counterclockwise around the center; in the Southern Hemisphere, clockwise.
Meteorologists track these systems to forecast storms: A low pressure system is moving up the coast.
