Artificial snow is snow produced by machines rather than natural weather, used at ski resorts when conditions are too warm or dry for adequate snowfall.
Snow machines atomize water into fine droplets that freeze as they fall.
The term also covers decorative fake snow—plastic flakes, spray-on frost, or foam—used in film productions, window displays, and holiday decorations: The mall sprayed artificial snow on the Christmas trees.
