lone star tick

Allergy-inducing bloodsucker

The lone star tick is a species of tick found primarily in the southeastern and eastern United States, named for the distinctive white spot on the adult female's back.

It aggressively bites humans and can transmit diseases including ehrlichiosis.

Bites from lone star ticks have been linked to alpha-gal syndrome, an allergic reaction to red meat.
