Liver and onions is a traditional dish of sliced liver—usually calf's or chicken liver—pan-fried with onions.
Once a commonplace budget meal, it has fallen from favor as tastes have shifted away from organ meats.
The dish now carries associations with institutional cafeterias and older generations: My grandmother loved liver and onions, but I could never stomach it.
