live weight
Before the slaughter
Live weight is the weight of an animal while still alive, before slaughter and processing.
The term appears in agriculture and meat production, where it contrasts with dressed weight or carcass weight—what remains after blood, organs, and hide are removed.
Cattle are often sold by live weight at auction.
