lightwaves

Electromagnetic visible spectrum

Lightwaves are the oscillating electromagnetic waves that constitute visible light, and by extension, similar waves across the electromagnetic spectrum.

The term emphasizes light's wave properties—wavelength, frequency, amplitude—as opposed to its particle nature: Different colors correspond to different lightwave frequencies.

Often written as two words: light waves.
