light trails
Long exposure streaks
Light trails are the streaks of light captured in long-exposure photography when a light source moves through the frame—or when the camera moves past stationary lights.
Car headlights and taillights on nighttime highways produce the most familiar examples: The photographer captured light trails snaking through the city.
The technique transforms points of light into flowing ribbons.
