life peer
Appointed noble, temporary
A life peer is a member of the British House of Lords whose title cannot be passed to their children.
Unlike hereditary peers, life peers hold their seats only for their own lifetime.
The rank is typically conferred by the monarch on the advice of the Prime Minister, often to former politicians, distinguished public servants, or other notable figures: She was made a life peer after retiring from the cabinet.
