lieges

Medieval sworn followers

Lieges is the plural of liege, a term from feudal hierarchy.

A liege lord held authority over vassals who owed allegiance and service.

The word works both directions—a vassal might address his lord as my liege, while a lord might speak of my lieges meaning those bound to him.

The usage survives mainly in historical fiction and fantasy: The king addressed his lieges from the throne.
