lidos

Outdoor swimming facilities

Lidos is the plural of lido, a public outdoor swimming pool or beach resort, especially one with associated recreational facilities.

The term is primarily British and derives from the Lido di Venezia, a famous beach resort near Venice.

Lidos were particularly popular in Britain during the early-to-mid twentieth century, and many historic lidos have been restored as community amenities.

The town's Victorian lido reopened after a decade of fundraising.
