flipflops

Casual summer footwear

Flipflops are flat sandals with a Y-shaped strap that passes between the big toe and second toe, named for the sound they make when walking.

Also spelled flip-flops or flip flops.

Separately, a flipflop is a reversal of position, especially in politics: The senator's flipflop on immigration cost her votes.

The verb flipflop means to change stance abruptly or repeatedly.
