league game
Official season contest
A league game is a match that counts toward standings in an organized competition, as opposed to exhibitions, friendlies, or tournament play.
Teams track their league record separately: They're 8-2 in league games but lost in the playoffs.
In youth sports, league games follow the regular schedule while non-league games fill gaps or test teams against outside competition.
