law officer
Enforcer of statutes
A law officer is someone whose job is to enforce the law—police officers, sheriffs, marshals, and similar officials.
The term is somewhat formal and often appears in legal contexts or official documents: The suspect fled when approached by law officers.
In British usage, law officer may also refer to government legal advisors like the Attorney General.
