latticing

Creating diamond patterns

Latticing is the act or process of creating a lattice—an open framework of crossed strips forming a pattern of spaces.

The word often describes decorative work on pie crusts, where strips of dough are woven across the top: She's latticing the cherry pie.

It can also refer to architectural or garden structures: latticing the pergola with wooden slats.
