lateralization
Functional hemisphere specialization
Lateralization is the tendency for certain functions to be concentrated on one side of the body or brain rather than distributed equally.
In neuroscience, it describes how the left hemisphere typically handles language while the right processes spatial reasoning.
The term also applies to physical preferences: Her lateralization showed in her dominant right hand.
In audiology, lateralization refers to perceiving sound as coming from one ear rather than the other.
