language policing
Enforcing linguistic norms
Language policing is monitoring and criticizing others' word choices, often to enforce ideological standards or political correctness.
The term is usually pejorative, implying excessive concern with language over substance: The language policing on social media has gotten out of hand.
It can describe enforcement from any political direction—progressive insistence on inclusive terminology or conservative objections to profanity.
