lag screws

Heavy wood bolts

Lag screws are large wood screws with coarse threads and a hexagonal head, driven with a wrench rather than a screwdriver.

They're used for heavy-duty fastening—attaching lumber to lumber or hardware to wood framing: The deck ledger was secured with lag screws.

Also called lag bolts, though technically they're screws because they cut their own threads.
