lacquer-ware
Shiny resin objects
Lacquer-ware refers to decorative objects—boxes, bowls, trays, furniture—coated with lacquer, a hard glossy finish traditionally made from tree resin.
The craft originated in East Asia, where artisans built up many thin layers, sometimes inlaid with gold, silver, or mother-of-pearl: Japanese lacquer-ware from the Edo period.
Also spelled lacquerware.
