katsudon

Breaded cutlet rice

Katsudon is a Japanese comfort food consisting of a deep-fried breaded pork cutlet (tonkatsu) simmered with onions and egg, then served over a bowl of steamed rice.

The name combines katsu (cutlet) and don (rice bowl).

Because katsu sounds like the Japanese word for "win," students often eat katsudon before exams for good luck.

I ordered the katsudon after a long day of studying.
