kahunas

Island spiritual leaders

Kahunas is the plural of kahuna, a Hawaiian word for a priest, expert, or master of a craft.

In American slang, it appears mainly in big kahunas—important people or, more often, testicles as a symbol of courage: It takes big kahunas to say that to the boss.

The slang sense treats the word as interchangeable with balls.
