joss paper

Burned for ancestors

Joss paper is sheets of paper, often gold or silver colored, that are burned as offerings in Chinese religious practices and ancestor worship.

The burning symbolically transfers money, goods, or blessings to deceased relatives or deities in the afterlife.

Also called ghost money or spirit money, it may be folded into shapes resembling gold ingots or printed to look like currency.

Families burn joss paper during Qingming Festival to honor their ancestors.
