inure
Make resistant through exposure
To inure someone to something is to accustom them to it through prolonged exposure, especially something unpleasant: Years of emergency room work had inured her to the sight of blood.
The word implies gradual hardening or desensitization.
What once shocked or disturbed no longer affects someone who has become inured to it.
Also spelled enure.
