intervenor

One who intercedes

An intervenor is a party who enters a legal proceeding to protect their own interests, even though they weren't originally part of the case.

Courts allow intervention when someone has a stake in the outcome that existing parties won't adequately represent: The environmental group sought status as an intervenor in the pipeline dispute.
