intelligencer
One who informs
An intelligencer is a person who gathers and reports information—essentially a spy or informant.
The term is archaic, largely replaced by agent or operative in modern usage.
It survives mainly in the names of newspapers founded centuries ago, where it meant a gatherer and reporter of news: The Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
