infolding

Bending into itself

Infolding is the act or process of folding inward.

In biology, it describes tissue that bends or tucks into itself during development—the infolding of cell membranes, the infolding of embryonic layers.

The word also works figuratively for anything that turns inward or draws itself together: an infolding of consciousness, the infolding of grief.
