impeachment trial
Senate removes official
An impeachment trial is a formal proceeding in which a legislative body, after voting to impeach a government official, determines whether to remove that official from office.
In the United States, the House of Representatives impeaches by majority vote, then the Senate conducts the trial: The impeachment trial of President Clinton ended in acquittal.
Conviction typically requires a supermajority.
