impactions

Stuck, wedged masses

Impactions are conditions in which something becomes wedged, packed, or stuck in a bodily passage or cavity.

The term most commonly refers to fecal impaction, where hardened stool lodges in the colon, or to impacted wisdom teeth that cannot emerge properly because they're blocked by other teeth or bone.

The dentist identified two impactions that would require surgical extraction.

Medical professionals use the term broadly for any tissue or substance that becomes abnormally compressed or lodged.
