imago

After the cocoon

An imago is the final, sexually mature stage of an insect after metamorphosis—the butterfly that emerges from the chrysalis, the dragonfly from the nymph.

In psychoanalysis, an imago is an idealized mental image of a parent or other significant person, formed in childhood and carried unconsciously into adulthood, shaping how one relates to others.
