virtual environment
Simulated computer space
A virtual environment is an isolated workspace within a computer system where software can run without affecting or being affected by other programs.
In programming, especially Python, developers create virtual environments to manage separate sets of dependencies for different projects: I set up a virtual environment before installing the new packages.
The term also applies more broadly to simulated digital spaces.
