hymnody

Church music tradition

Hymnody is the practice of singing hymns, or hymns collectively as a body of work.

The term often refers to the hymn tradition of a particular denomination, era, or composer: Methodist hymnody, Victorian hymnody.

It encompasses both the composition and congregational performance of religious songs.
