hydropathy
Healing through water
Hydropathy is the treatment of disease through the external application of water—baths, compresses, steam, and similar methods.
The practice flourished in the nineteenth century as an alternative to harsh medical interventions like bloodletting.
Today the term sounds old-fashioned; hydrotherapy is the modern equivalent.
