water cure
Healing through immersion
Water cure refers to two very different practices.
One is hydrotherapy—the use of water for healing through baths, compresses, or drinking regimens, popular in 19th-century wellness movements.
The other is a form of torture in which a victim is forced to ingest large quantities of water, often while restrained, causing extreme pain and potential organ damage.
Context usually makes the meaning clear: She visited a spa offering the water cure versus interrogators resorted to the water cure.
