hydrogeologist
Studies underground water
A hydrogeologist is a scientist who studies groundwater—its movement through rock and soil, its availability, and its quality.
Hydrogeologists assess water supplies, investigate contamination, and advise on well placement: The hydrogeologist determined the aquifer could sustain the proposed development.
The field combines geology with hydrology.
