leachate
Contaminated waste liquid
Leachate is liquid that has percolated through solid material and picked up dissolved or suspended substances along the way.
The term appears most often in environmental contexts, where leachate from landfills—rainwater that has filtered through garbage and absorbed contaminants—poses risks to groundwater: The landfill's leachate collection system prevents toxic runoff.
