holy water fonts
Church entrance vessels
Holy water fonts are small basins, typically mounted near church entrances, that hold water blessed by a priest.
Catholics and some other Christians dip their fingers in the font and make the sign of the cross upon entering or leaving, a gesture of purification and renewal of baptismal vows.
Fonts range from simple wall-mounted stoups to ornate marble vessels: She touched the holy water font as she entered the cathedral.
