hold-downs
Devices preventing movement
Hold-downs are devices or mechanisms that secure something in place, preventing movement or lifting.
In woodworking, hold-downs clamp material to a workbench or machine table.
In aerospace, hold-downs are restraints that keep a rocket fixed to the launch pad until ignition is complete: The hold-downs released and the shuttle lifted off.
The term applies broadly to any fastener or clamp serving this function.
