hokey pokey

Children's group dance

Hokey pokey has several unrelated meanings depending on where you are.

In the US, it's primarily the name of a participatory children's song and dance where you put various body parts "in" and "out" and "shake it all about." In New Zealand and parts of Britain, hokey pokey is a type of honeycomb toffee, often used as an ice cream flavor.

The phrase can also mean trickery or nonsense, related to the older term hocus-pocus.
