helpmeet
Supportive life companion
Helpmeet is an archaic or biblical term for a companion or helper, especially a spouse.
The word arose from a misreading of Genesis, where God creates "an help meet for" Adam—that is, a helper suitable for him.
The two words fused into one: She was his faithful helpmeet for forty years.
Helpmate is a later variant with the same meaning.
