headways

Advances being made

Headways is the plural of headway, which has two main senses.

First, forward progress or momentum: The negotiators finally made some headways on the stalled trade agreement.

Second, in transportation, the time or distance between vehicles traveling the same route: Rush hour headways on the subway drop to three minutes.

The singular form is far more common.
