guidewires

Thin flexible medical probes

Guidewires are thin, flexible wires used in medical procedures to navigate through blood vessels or other body passages.

A catheter or other instrument slides over the guidewire, which leads it to the target location: The surgeon threaded the guidewire into the coronary artery.

Once the device is in place, the guidewire is withdrawn.
