graininess

Speckled, rough quality

Graininess is the quality of having a grainy texture or appearance.

In photography and film, graininess refers to the visible speckled pattern caused by light-sensitive particles, often associated with high ISO settings or older film stock: The graininess gives the footage a vintage feel.

In food, graininess describes an undesirably coarse or gritty texture: The sauce had an unpleasant graininess.
