gospel readings
Sunday scripture selections
Gospel readings are passages from the four Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—recited during Christian worship services.
In liturgical traditions, the gospel reading is the climax of the scripture portion of the service, often read by a priest or deacon while the congregation stands.
The term also refers to collections of such passages organized by the church calendar: The lectionary contains gospel readings for every Sunday of the year.
