goldenberry

Husk-wrapped tart fruit

A goldenberry is a small, round, yellow-orange fruit enclosed in a papery husk, similar to its relative the tomatillo.

Native to South America, it has a sweet-tart flavor often compared to pineapple or citrus.

Goldenberries are eaten fresh, dried, or in jams and desserts: I added dried goldenberries to my trail mix.

Also called cape gooseberry or Peruvian groundcherry.
