glycerides

Fatty acid esters

Glycerides are esters formed from glycerol and fatty acids, the primary components of animal and vegetable fats and oils.

A glyceride molecule has one, two, or three fatty acid chains attached to a glycerol backbone—called monoglycerides, diglycerides, and triglycerides respectively.

Triglycerides are the most common form, making up the bulk of stored body fat and dietary fats.
